You can get IV sedation if you do not want to be alert for the procedure. You want to look for someone who practices sedation dentistry if that is the case, because not all dentists are qualified to do this type of procedure. However, to answer your question, no, you don’t have to be put to sleep. Some people elect just to have a local anesthetic and do just fine.
If you’re getting all your teeth out, I just want to make sure your dentist warned you about the danger of facial collapse. If not, you want to look into it and the option of getting dental implants instead of dentures.
